Firewheel Christian Academy's story began in January 1980, when a small group of visionary leaders from First at Firewheel Church initiated a plan to establish a Christian school. With a long-range vision developed by Pastor E. Wayne Hanks and the unanimous approval of the congregation, much prayer and many meetings followed.
Buckingham North Christian School officially launched in September 1981 with just five kindergarten students. By the 1982-83 school year, enrollment grew to 23 students across a kindergarten class and a combined first- and second-grade class. As the years progressed, we steadily added more grades and enriched our offerings with classes like music, Spanish, computers, and athletics.
A significant milestone arrived in 2004 with our relocation to the current Lavon Drive campus, a move that dramatically expanded our potential to fulfill the school's mission. Then, in 2007, we proudly adopted the name Firewheel Christian Academy, reflecting our deep connection to the church and community we serve.
Our history is a testament to God's faithfulness and our enduring commitment to providing quality Christian education.
